Air Pressure is love.

In class we filled out a diagram about air pressure. Air pressure is consists of water vapor, elevation, and tempeture. At a high altitude there will be less pressure which would have a lower density also. At a lower altitude there will be more pressure which will also create a higher density. Did you know that, the earths atmosphere is pressing against you with a force of 1k per square cm. Also, the air in your body balances out the pressure from outside so your body doesn't get all squished, it stays nice and normal. I thought that this diagram was boring but it taught me a lot so that was a-okay.

Also, this is a picture of a air gauge. It tells you how much pressure is in the item your wondering about.

kites!

In our class when went outside to try to fly the kites we created. You were only allowed to use paper and a string. Something interesting that I found out was that the wind my kite was useing is called local winds. Local winds are from sea breezes and land breezes. Did you know, that our land we stand on heats up faster than the sea during the day. Sometimes at night time there is a time where both land and sea winds are calm because the temperatures are equal. I believe that going outside was very fun. It's pretty cool to go outside and still be able to learn. I would like to go outside for class more often, the beautiful, light, winds help my brain function. ;)

Pop it! :)

Our class did a lab called "popping fun." This lab consist of vinegar and baking soda. The purpose was to show charles law. Once you poured the baking soda into the vinegar you had to place the cork on very fast or the liquids would just over flow out, i thought that was interesting. Our cap unfortunately had a hole at the bottom of it but that didn't stop it from popping one bit, it still had full force. Something very interesting was that once you combined these two substances and place the cork on top creates a lot of pressure causing the cork to fly off.

Other interesting facts about this lab:
-If you mix these two chemicals together in a plastic bag you can create a bubble bomb.
http://www.exploratorium.edu/science_explorer/bubblebomb.html
-When you make a visual of a volcano and you want it to erupt, you can also use baking soda and vinegar to create the reaction.
http://chemistry.about.com/cs/howtos/ht/buildavolcano.htm

In my opinion i thought this lab was fun and exciting. Each try we had to succeed the cork to pop off made me more engaged and into this lab. I thought it was cool how my teacher offered us extra credit if we hit the window three times in a row.

Flat-out stunning

On Tuesday, January 15th, Apple introduced the worlds thinnest laptop. Steve Jobs the CEO of Apple showed off the MacBook Air during the MacWorld confrence in San Fransisco, California. Many people thought that Apple could not top off the invention of last years iPhone. But yet, they were wrong. This amazing object has the potential to reshape the laptop industry. This MacBook Air weighs exactley three pounds. It is so thin it fits perfectly into a manila folder. This seamless and simple machine is designed so beautiful and modern it could possibly go in the Museum or Modern Art. The price of the laptop starts at $1,799. An item that is just .16 inches thinnest and .76 inches thickest could change a whole revolution.
I believe that this is a very superb invention and that many people are going to appreciate the size of this machine. :)

Mars(:

Just a few days ago on december 18th the planet mars came very close to our planet earth. Mars makes a close encounter with earth every 26 months. Our NASA Hubble Space telescope photographed this beautiful picture and many more. The fabulous planet was just 55 million miles away. Along with mars many other objects came close, such as a very powerful jet that came from a super-massive black hole that must have been blasted in a near by galaxy. All these interesting objects can be seen from here on earth with the help of our Hubble Space Team. I personally believe that this observation is very amazing because it allows us to explore the world of outer space !

Peanut butter wiki time =]

Recentley in school we have been working on wiki's and our topics were on the earth and events that happen and stuff like that. The wiki allows you to write information down on a website for people to veiw. Not only that, you and your friend can work on the same one at once so you dont have to go over each others houses. There were many types of topics such as horsts, grabens, seismographs, hanging walls and foot walls. Something interesting is that everyone had something diffrent. I just went on our wiki site and found out some information. I found out that a horst is the uppermost part of a fault. Another thing i found out was that a Tsunami is an earthquake that happens under water and creates a horrible overflowtion. To find more about the earth and its interesting aspects join me at:

His tomb or no tomb?

ON may 8th, 2007, an israeli archaeologist admits that he found king herod's tomb. This so called tomb was found near the west bank town of Hebron. This man has been studing this since the 1970's and now, he acually found something. The archaeologist said that his team found a peice of lime stone that belonged to an acient king. But, there were no bones in the container. Since he had found this peice of evedince, it motivated him to work harder, so now he has found the so called tomb of king Herods. Even tho i do not like acient items, this still seems pretty cool because its big and it looks pretty amazing.

Were all gunna die..some day!

On April 25th 2007 a new study acured. In the state of Washington, the start of the sun spot cycle will come soon. It is suppost to acure in between 2011-2012. The governments space enviroment space center in boulder, had half of the scientist expect that there will be a strong cycle of 140 sunspots in 2011 in the mounth of august. An average cycle ranges from 75-155 spots. Since 140 is at the top of the peek for amounts, this means that in the sky there will be many problems in airline activeties and electrical transmissions. My take on this is that i think its a little scary. In this case ill be sure not to fly in a plane in the year 2011.To learn more about this go to this leading web site:

~ Sand waves ~

Last week in class we did a lab called sand waves. I thought that this lab was awesome and super fun =). Some things i learned while doing this experiment was that the highest point of the wave is called the crest. Not only that, the bottom part is called the trough. But the most interesting thing i found out was that frequency is the number of times that a function repeats the same sequence of events in a unit of time. Did you know that the distance between the crest and the trough is the wave height? But, the distance between crest and crest is wave length. I thought that this lab was cool. The reason it was so cool was because i got to earn all these new facts while having fun!

Let the fat toad sing!

On march 27th, a environmental group discovered a huge toad down in Australia. Scientist say that it is one of the largest toads ever discovered in Australia. The toad was nearly two pounds and is compared to a football and a small dog. These toads are very toxic and are harmful to the other animals around this amphibian. This type of toad is a called a cane toad. The toad is 15 inches long, pretty monstrous right? I thought that this toad sounded amazing. Just comparing a toad to my puppy made me giggle a bit. I think that finding a awesome amphibian like the cane toad was a amazing discovery. That is what i thought of this cool toad =).

Rhinos!!

On February 20, 2007, a Sumatran rhino arrived in Indonesia. It was transferred from the United States to Indonesia so that it could live in the right habitat. This has been the first time in over 100 years this type of rhino has been here, they were endangered. However, now that it is here, it's job is to reproduce to bring this type of rhino back in action instead of becoming extinct.

I actually believe that this is going to be a great thing because we don't want animal groups to die out. I am so glad that he is now in the right place and that he will live a long time.Being that there are only a few is a big problem, but now this one rhino is the miracle to all our rhino problems.

Swinging by Mars =)

On February 22, 2007, the german's were notifyed that the probe was indeed lined up with mars for a nice up close and personal veiw. In space, the probe named Rosetta is suppost to land on a comet and study it. The probe is in the hands of Europe however, it was launched in Germany. I think that this is a very cool discovery because the prob has to land on the comet while it is going pretty fast.

I would love to know the out come because i want to find out more in what they are trying to discover. I also think that this mission is very intense because what would happen if the probe were to not land right and hit the side of the comet and then explode or break some how, but in the end i hope it does its job well =).

-I got my information from cnn.com

Peanut butter news!

Down in the little state of Pennsylvania, a new out break was soon to occur. On february 22, 2007 a women by the name of Roberta Barkay was poisened by salmonella in peanut butter. When she went to the hospital she did not find out that she was indeed struck with salmonella. The scientist studied her after here death. The peanut butter was made by the company Peter Pan but another type scientist said that the brand Great value was also contaminated. Later that week, Roberta Barkay passed away, January 30th, 2007.

I do hope that she may restin peace. I also hope that later on they should test foods befor they go on the self because of the recent issues with bacteria and substances like that in food such as salmonella and E.coli. I think it's a little bit crazy that all these out breaks keep on happening right know.

Meiosis square dance!

In science class, were learning about chromosomes and meiosis. A couple of days ago we watched a short movie about meiosis. It was called "Meiosis Square Dance." It tought me that the chromosomes split to oppisite ends of the cell and then bring half of there cells to the middle. Then both the cells they took from the parents move to the center and create another cell. In my opinion i thought this was a great way to show how the process of meiosis works becase it was fun and easy to understand it.
To watch the video go to:

Meiosis is when one diploid cell divides to create haploid cells.
Meiosis means to make smaller

ToothPick Fish

In science class we did a little project about fish and there diffrent alleles. Something cool i learned from this little project was that you can have a incomplete dominant. A incomplete dominant is a set of allels that have the same colors. But in the end you get a random color. I also learned about co-dominance. Its when you have two diffrent alleles and they mate but they have a random color and the parents colors spread out around them in spots. In my opinion i loved this project because it was fun and silly at the same time. Also, the fact i learned like incomplete dominant is so cool to know because thats why you might have diffrent color eyes than both parents or grand parents.
